One of my favorite breathing techniques to soothe the nervous system, quiet the mind, and improve focus.

I would like to share one of my favorite breathing techniques to soothe the nervous systemquiet the mind,  and improve focus. This breath is named alternate nostril breathing, or nadi shodhana in Sanskrit. The high school students that visit me in the Mindfulness Room use it before tests, to leave home stressors behind, and to clear their minds in order to decline choices that impair their personal best.

Try this breath:

  • Before work to clear your mind
  • After work to leave work at work
  • Before a presentation
  • To help you sleep at night
  • Or, anytime you just need a moment
This breath is beneficial to: balance the energy in both hemispheres of the brain; calm the mind; clear impurities from the lungs; relax and calm the body and mind. Try this breath for 1-3 minutes.
